4X4 rental in South Africa and Southern Africa
Looking for an adventurous way to travel South and Southern Africa? How about driving in a 4X4, sleeping in a tent on the roof of your 4X4 and having all necessary camping equipment available to you? You'll have all the freedom you need to explore these countries in your own way and at your own pace. Roads are well accessible, especially for a 4X4, and petrol prices are also quite reasonable.
Our partner in South Africa is a professional, reliable rental organisation specialized in 4x4 rentals of cars between 6 - 12 months old. You'll be well insured and there are no surcharges for driving in countries surrounding South Africa.

Prices for a duration above 35 days are available at a discount. Prices available on request.
DeductibleA excess is included in the prices mentioned above. We advise paying off the entire excess for the 4x4 (standard: R45000). You can choose to do this on arrival, or ahead of time, by paying the all-in rate. This will entail paying approximately £25 extra per day. Once you've paid the all-in rate you'll receive full coverage, will not have a excess and all repairs are covered (even repairs to your windshield and tires).
Option 1: For ZAR 150 per day you can pay off your excess up to ZAR 20.000 (maximum up to 50 days or ZAR 7500).
Option 2: For ZAR 300 per day you can pay off your excess completely (maximum up to 50 days or ZAR 15000).
Included in 4x4 rental rates: - Standard equipment
Towing cable, tire pump, large lifting jack, maps and a campsite guide. Passenger cabin alarm. The alarm is not available in tents and for camping equipment in the rear of the car. The King Cab does have an alarm in this area. The Double Cab, has an extra back seat in the passenger cabin suitable for personal baggage.
- If booked with camping equipment
Complete equipment with 1-2 roof tents, braai and barbecue, full petrol and water tanks and cooking apparatus, electric cool box, bedding/sleeping bags, mattress, pillows, linens, towels, camp table and chairs, cutlery, plates, cooking gear, lamp, flashlight, first-aid kit, fire extinguisher, axe and shovel. An extra tent can be booked on request.
- Unlimited kilometres
All rates include unlimited kilometres. While exploring this kind of destination, you'll be travelling many kilometres. Therefore this option is more reasonable than a limited kilometre option. - Free transfers from / to airports

- Border documents
Documents and approval to take the rental car over the border to surrounding countries. If you would like travel outside of South Africa, let us know which countries you would like to visit while booking your trip. Border documents must be arranged before you pick up your car.

Excluded: - One-way fees
If drop-off and pick-up location differ, you will have to pay R 3.500. If you pick the car up in South Africa and drop it off in Namibia or vice versa you'll pay R 4.500. Information on fees for picking up a car in South Africa and dropping it off in one of the surrounding countries is available on request. One-way rentals should always be requested at booking.
- Full tank
At pick-up, you'll pay for a full tank (at a 10% discount) and at drop-off the tank must be filled up as well (if it isn't, this will be deducted from your credit card). - One-time contract fee (stamp duty): approximately ZAR 20
- Visas, border taxes etc.
You will be responsible for paying fees related to border crossings. In Botswana and Namibia these fees are approximately R100 and R200 per person. In Mozambique you'll also be responsible for a one-time payment for liability insurance, approximately R 150 and a visa at approximately R350 per person. At the Zimbabwe border you'll pay approximately US $55 per person for a visa, approximately US $15 for liability insurance and approximately R445 for additional insurance.
