Cape Vidal 4x4 excursionDuring your stay at St. Lucia go on the popular daytrip to the sandy beaches of Cape Vidal. There are few places in South Africa where the beaches are as beautiful and quiet as here. The swept up high sand dunes are also quite a sight. The excursion takes place in a small group and while driving in a 4X4 you'll be able to see part of the St. Lucia National Park along the way. |
| Get up early, because at 06.30 you'll be picked up by an open 4x4 truck and begin travelling to Cape Vidal. You'll drive through the St. Lucia Wetlands Park and keep an eye out for wild animals (rhinos, impala, zebras and all kinds of water birds). At Mission Rock you'll stop for a quick walk to the top of the rock formation. At the top enjoy a wide view over the entire lake. The lake is only 1-2 metres deep, but over 85 kilometres long and full of thousands of crocodiles, hippopotami, birds and fish. If you have a good pair of binoculars, you could see crocodiles sunbathing on the banks of the lake. Another quick stop will be made at the Mfasa salt plains. Watch for the unique tails on the birds in this area! |

Afterwards your journey will continue on to the beach at Cape Vidal. There will plenty of time to swim and snorkel (this depends on the tide) and to climb the enormous sand dunes. After a while, you'll return to the park and have a fun snack-lunch under the trees at the beach. After a 45 minute car ride you'll return to St. Lucia with a great tan the same evening. The programme for the day can be reversed, depending on the tide, in order to allow for snorkelling. Keep in mind, this activity depends on weather conditions. If the weather is truly poor, an alternate programme will be offered or you will have the opportunity to go on the same excursion another day or you'll receive a restitution. |
