Starter Packs - Johannesburg or Pretoria
Easy Going Starter Packs
Nearly all South Africa tours start off in Pretoria. In Pretoria you can choose from one of our laid-back, peaceful, centrally located guest houses. After arrival at Johannesburg airport, pick up your rental car and embark on the pleasant 30 km drive north to Pretoria. If you prefer, we can arrange a hotel transfer for you so that you can relax during your first day in South Africa and take to the road the day after arrival. The Easy Going Starter Pack can be extended by one or more nights if you decide to stay in Pretoria for a longer period of time. You can even add on a Pretoria starter pack to the end of tours in South Africa. There is also a starter pack available for Johannesburg if you prefer to start your journey in there. This module will give you a really great glimpse of Kruger National Park and the Blyde River Canyon surroundings. You'll spend the first two nights in centrally located Hazyview - a small town surrounded by lush banana plantations. You'll have a full day to explore the rugged Blyde River Canyon and its surroundings, and you'll spend the following two days travelling through Kruger National Park at your own pace. You'll be amazed by the large number of wild animals you'll encounter. You'll spend 2 night in 2 different Kruger restcamps. Kruger Walking Tours
In order to fully enjoy Kruger National Park, we recommend adding an additional four or five days to your trip for one of these bush adventures. During this module, you'll take thrilling single-file game walks led by professional wildlife rangers in search of the Big Five, as well as more traditional game drives. The safaris will take place in the Timbavati Game Reserve in Greater Kruger and the Klaserie Private Reserve just beyond the Kruger border. These are both large private game reserves offering brilliant game viewing. The safaris involve approximately 4 hours of walking a day, so a reasonable level of physical fitness is required. The game drives will take place in open 4X4 jeeps, enabling you to see as many wild animals as possible. |

From Johannesburg/ Pretoria to Edeni Private Game Reserve
Tented Lodge Safari
This module begins in Johannesburg or Pretoria and takes you on a whirlwind wildife adventure. It kicks off with a day at Blyde River Canyon, along the famour panorama route. Then, you'll enjoy a relaxed stay at an exclusive, unconventional, and luxurious tented camp at the Edeni Private Game Reserve. The reserve is only an hour away from Kruger National Park and Phalaborwa. Accompanied by professional game trackers and in open 4X4 Land Rovers, you'll be able to get closer to the wild animals than ever before. There's a very good chance that you'll see the Big 5 in this area. Aside from the unforgettable game experience, you will also have the comfort of an 'Out of Africa' tent with your own bathroom and there's a swimming pool for a quick dip after your game drive in the African sun. This module combines a Big 5 safari in the quiet, malaria-free northwest province with the culture of the Pedi people. You'll head north from Johannesburg to the untainted 76,000 hectare Madikwe Game Reserve situated against the border with Botswana. You'll experience an out of this world safari, led by professional park rangers and, at the end of each day, you can relax by the campfire listening to the calls of the wild. Your journey will then lead you straight through fruit orchards and will continue on into the land of the indigenous Pedi people. |
Swaziland and St. Lucia
Beehive Huts and St. Lucia
This is the perfect module for travellers looking for some relaxation after a safari in Kruger National Park. From Kruger, you'll travel south to KwaZulu Natal and the peaceful beaches near Durban harbour. Next, you'll drive your rental car through fascinating Swaziland and enjoy the sights in the country's largest natural park: Mlilwane. You'll spend one night in a typical Swazi beehive hut (chalets are also available upon request) and become acquainted with the Swazi culture. Afterwards, you'll travel further south along comfortable roads to discover two beautiful areas -the St. Lucia Wetlands and Hluhluwe National Park (pronounced shooshlooey). These National Parks are just as breathtaking as Kruger. You'll stay in the village of St. Lucia, a mecca for backpackers and outdoor enthusiasts. The village is ideally located for visits to both St. Lucia and Hluhluwe. If you have some extra time available to spend on holiday, we recommend adding on an extra night or two in St. Lucia in order to visit Cape Vidal. The pristine, soft, sandy beach at Cape Vidal goes on for kilometres and kilometres is definitely worth a detour. |
From Champagne Valley (Drakensberg mountains) to Umhlanga near Durban
Sandy Beaches and Drakensberg Mountains
This scenic module gives you a couple of active days in the wonderful Drkaensberg mountains, followed a couple of lazy ones on the beach near Durban. Over two nights in Champagne Valley, you'll plenty of time for some unfortgettable treks through the magnificant Drakensberg in KwaZulu Natal. Next, you'll drive to Umhlanga, near Durban, where you can spend a day relaxing on the sandy beach. Durban is great for transport links, so you can easily catch a flight to Johannesburg, Port Elizabeth or Cape Town after the module ends. Alternatively, if you're feeling more adventurous you can set off towards Lesotho or the wonderful Wild Coast. |

Lesotho Mountain Trail
During your drive through South Africa, why not include visit the unspoilt, rugged and mountainous kingdom of Lesotho? Here, you can enjoy horseback trail rides or 4X4 trips over high mountain passes and along spectacular waterfalls and gorges. You'll get to know the Basotho, local shepherds on horseback wrapped in thick blankets, and get a real glimpse of their daily lives. This trip is organised in cooperation with local inhabitants of Lesotho as part of a community project. so a portion of our profits go towards supporting the area. |
Durban to Addo National Park via Coffee Bay
Transkei Wild Coast Drive
Instead of flying from Durban down to the Cape, you can opt for this adventurous drive along South Africa's little visited Wild Coast (or Transkei). This is the birthplace of Mandela and a stunningly beautiful area which is home to people from both the Xhosa and Zulu tribes. The Wild Coast really is authentic South Africa with all of its uniqueness and long standing traditions. You'll drive through rustic villages, untouched by the tide of tourism, with brightly painted huts dotting the hills. The Wild Coast really is wild - many parts of it are spectacularly rugged, with winding roads framed by steep cliffs. However, the area is also home to many secluded coves, quiet beaches and calm waters. Here, you can simply relax and enjoy the atmosphere. Isn't that what travelling is all about? |
From Port Elizabeth through Knysna and Oudtshoorn to Stellenbosch
Garden Route Adventure Trail
We offer many adventurous activities for you to choose from along the trail of the famous Garden Route from Port Elizabeth to Cape Town. This is one of THE great road trips, and there's so much to see along the way. It's possible to drive the entire route in just 5 days, as described in this module. However, if you have a little extra time, we recommend taking it a little more easy. Why not add a day or so for some hiking or kayaking at Plettenberg Bay, visit the Cango Caves and take in the colonial atmosphere at Swellendam? Don't forget to try to spot the dolphins and whales at Hermanus before you leave for home. Whatever you choose to do, you'll be surrounded by the spacious, lush green environment along this extraordinary southern coastline. From Port Elizabeth, to Addo National Park, Oudtshoorn and Stellenbosch
Route 62 - Elephants, Ostriches and Wine
Route 62 is another one of South Africa's famous highways, and wonderful for that epic road trip feeling. This highway starts in Port Elizabeth and is a quirky alternative to the Garden Route. This module begins with a visit to the Addo Elephant National Park. Then, you'll find that the road becomes a little more rugged as you get closer to ostrich city, Oudtshoorn, on the edge of the Karoo desert. The trip ends in Stellenbosch, in the heart of the Cape Winelands. Here, you can enjoy a glass (or more) of wonderful South African wine. If you like, you can also do the trip in reverse, beginning in Stellenbosch and heading for Port Elizabeth. The Route 62 module is very compatible with the Adventurous Garden Route Trail module, so why not opt for a combination of both? |
Stellenbosch and Tulbagh
Cape and Wine, Drive'n'Dine
During this module, you'll travel by rental car through the breathtaking South African winelands, only an hour or so beyond Cape Town. You'll spend time in the charming villages of Tulbagh and Stellenbosch, visiting wine estates and toasting great South African wine with the local producers. Enjoy the wine... but remember to take a cab home afterwards(!) This short module combines well with Cape Town. |
