If you’re after the ultimate camping road trip in Southern Africa, take a look at the itineraries below. During these camping trips you will be driving your own 4×4 complete with roof tent. As with all of our holidays, we offer the ability to customize your camping itinerary and you can shorten or extend your trip or add on an extra day at one of the locations.

10 day South Africa and Mozambique 4X4 trip
Itinerary: Blydepoort, Kruger Park, Swaziland, Ponta d’Ouro, Mkuze, St. Lucia, Durban

This short camping itinerary combines visits to some of the most beautiful locations in South Africa and Mozambique. You’ll spend the night on your 4X4 roof tent at campsites in Kruger Park and near the beaches of Mozambique.

First, you’ll trek through Kruger Park in search of the big five. You can also visit Mlilwane where you’ll have a very good chance of seeing swimming hippos and crocodiles.

Having travelled in South Africa, you’ll drive into the breathtaking sunset of the beaches at Ponto d’Ouro in Mozambique. The diving conditions are excellent and, if you like, you can swim with dolphins. You’ll end your trip with a visit to Mkuze and St. Lucia. Your camping accommodation will be pre-arranged for you; you’ll sleep in a roof tent on the top of your 4X4.

Want to explore South Africa with your own four-wheel drive? Do you prefer your holidays more adventurous and enjoy camping out in the wild on the roof of a rugged 4X4? If so, this camping safari in South Africa is definitely a trip for you!

You’ll start off this itinerary in Kruger where you’ll camp in the park, as well as staying in a delightful lodge. However, you’ll also travel through 4X4 areas in Swaziland, spend the night in the Mkuze Game reserve, and visit the dunes at Cape Vidal. You’ll go on hikes through the impressive Drakensberg Mountains returning back to Johannesburg.

If you would like to visit all of Southern Africa’s finest safari parks independently, then this is the itinerary for you. This 17 day 4X4 itinerary will take through 3 countries, across 3500-4000 km in two and half weeks.

The trip begins in South Africa and quite quickly afterwards you’ll cross the border into Botswana. The first stop is at the salt plains. The salt plains cover an area of approximately 37,000 km2. This area is great for taking pictures. Then it’s time for the world famous Victoria Falls, which you can visit from your base in Livingstone, Zambia. Looking for an amazing experience? Then go on a flight above the waterfalls.

This trip continues towards Chobe and Moremi, two of the most famous national parks in Botswana, and you’ll also pass the Okavango Delta. The trip returns to Johannesburg by way of the Marakele National Park.
